This thesis deals with the use of music in occupational therapy. In the theoretical part the focus is on the question “Which evidences are described in the literature for the use and the effect of music as means within occupational therapy?” For this purpose a literature research was conducted and scientific literature out of all occupational therapy departments was used to answer this question. The results are represented on the basis of the components of the occupational performance model (Australia). The benefits within the use of music were evident in all components of occupational performance (biomechanics, sensomotoric, cognition, intrapersonal and interpersonal). For the empirical part, four occupational therapists, who work in geriatrics departments, were interviewed to get information on the following questions: “For which groups of clients, music is used?” “Which arrangements are used thereby?” “Which goals are pursued and in which setting the use of music takes place in occupational therapy?” These interview supply results to all components of occupational performance too. However, not all of the answers assigned to the components. Therefore the results on the setting and the target group are presented on the basis of the interview manual. Additionally this work points out the difference between occupational therapy and music therapy by reference to evidences of the theoretical and the empirical part. |
