“Basical Knowledge of Social Work with unaccompanied underaged refugees demonstrated on the example of Caritas Wiens Voluntary Return Support” is the title of this Bachelor Thesis.
Every year thousands of children and adolescents leave their home country. They are from Afghanistan, Nigeria, Somalia and Chechenia. The reasons why they flee are different. They leave their country because of war, coups, revolutions, political persecutions or violence. During the time from January till November 2011 1002 unaccompanied underaged refugees made an application for asylum in Austria. When they have arrived the country of arrival they hope for safeness, peace and future prospects. After arrival in Austria, they are confronted with law obstacles and long procedures for granting the right of asylum. Without exceptions the young asylum- seekers suffer from traumatic experiences and mental stress. Furthermore, they suffer from the problems of everyday life, like uncertainty because of the residence, education and work, missing structure of their day, placement and care, becoming an adult, social relationships and experiences with the police.
