To offer youth opportunities to participate is seen as a basic attitude when working with youth. Participation helps the development of youth and broadens their options. This thesis aims to discuss the theoretical approach to participation of „Sociospatial Youth-Work“ and „Positive Youth Development“. Both concepts will be discussed by the means of their historical development, main concepts and methods. Furthermore, the term „participation“ will be analyzed from different angles. Models of participation will be introduced, legal conditions of participation of youth and the meaning of participation for youth will be presented. Subsequently, the involvement of participation in the two concepts is going to be discussed in detail, differences and similiarities will be shown. In the final chapter, conclusions from the theoretical approaches will be drawn.
