The organization of Viennese Women´s Shelters was founded in the late 70´s. It is the aim of the organization to offer protection and support to women and children afflicted by violence. Services include medical, psychological and legal counselling.
Living and working together at the Women´s Shelter is defined by a clear set of rules through which personal safety shall be guaranteed and peaceful cohabitation promoted.
Additionally, a stay in one of these institutions offers to these women afflicted by violence the opportunity to get a new perspective of what has happened to them and – if necessary – to adjust their conduct of life accordingly.
As the personal evaluation of former residents of such shelters in regard to offered services is the main purpose of this paper, it seems reasonable to first portray the central concepts and services of these Women´s Shelters in theory.
In a consequent step the personal evaluations are being compared to the theoretic results of the detailed literary research.
