This bachelor thesis, “Ecology and Social Work? A study on the role of social and human ecological issues” investigates the connection of social work on ecology, with a particular focus on everyday practice. The Theoretical Framework form the approaches of social and human ecology. With the worsening threat of marginalized populations by environmental problems, the need for participation of social work on environmental protection is given. Scientific papers with a natural- and social science bachround are used to demonstrate the threats of social work clients, particularly by climate change, and options for action. Moreover they show, that in the global population, a change in values is taken place. Aimed towards a sustainable lifestyle. Community oriented social work is presented as an area of social work, with a connection to social and human ecological issues in the context of Local Agenda 21 - processes. Its principles are crucial to ensure the success of these processes. It appears, however, that the social work only marginally processed ecological issues in their everyday practice and thus a change is needed. As a first step, environmental issues could be integrated into the training of social workers.
