This bachelor thesis deals with psychological violence against women in form of male domestic violence. The focus is on the correlation between the experienced psychological violence, its consequences and the destruction of the affected womens’ self-esteem. The different forms of psychological violence and their various impacts are described in all facets. The low or non-existing self-esteem of the affected women enormously reduces their ability for action. With this in mind, social work is supposed to utilize various possible actions in order to (re-)strengthen the self-esteem of affected women. This includes the generation of a structural framework such as the law on protection against violence, different operational approaches in connection with the empowerment and the gender specific counselling for women. It is crucial to recognize women in their individual situations and if required to provide further support offers beside of the social work assistance, such as psychotherapy.
