This paper deals with the development of a control concept for an existing 6-axis robot developed by the FH Campus Wien. On the basis of this con-cept, a control for the 6-axis robot is constructed. The focus is on the creation and documentation of hardware and software for the entire con-trol system. The robot serves the purpose of allowing the students to learn programming and controlling a 6-axis robot. In order for the users to be able to operate the robot, a user interface has been established. Operation is via the slide switches that were mounted on the surface of the user in-terface. This user interface includes an LCD display for showing the robot system’s states, a microcontroller to handle the inputs and generating control signals accordingly, and slide switches as input devices. The ro-bot’s stepper motors are driven by the stepper motor control SMCI33. To control the stepper motors, the stepper motor control SMCI33 is operated in clock direction and speed mode. In the clock direction mode, the step-per motor control SMCI33 is operated via two entrances with a clock-run and a direction signal.
