More and more people contract diabetes mellitus. In order to prevent and successfully treat its main complication, the diabetic foot, it is of importance to know the preventative measures for diabetes mellitus, as well as methods that can prevent the emergence of a diabetic foot when diabetes mellitus has already been diagnosed. The patients themselves can contribute considerably to the treatment’s success, provided that they received proper counselling and training, and that they devise their treatment together with the medical personal. In addition to the routine checkups, the patients can take part in the diabetes treatment program (i.e., the diabetes disease management program). In favour of a better treatment flow, the patients can maintain a diabetes plan.
