The present research paper deals with two initiatives, founded in the course of social movements during the 1970ies and 1980ies in Vienna, called ‘Amerlinghaus’ and ‘Rotstilzchen’. The examination investigates how far the work in these two houses and basic approaches of community work, which were defined quite a bit later, are related to each other. On the basis of leading standards of community work according to Lüttringhaus the work of both associations were analysed. Based on the previously selected characteristics, categories could be formed, which made an equation of the behaviors of the initiatives possible. Hence conclusions to answer the question could be educed and merged.
