In this paper, different methods that serve to reduce acoustic noise in magnetic resonance imaging are described. Simple equipment, sequence optimization and adjustment of mechanical components, such as the gradient, are approached and a comparison of the noise levels of devices of different magnetic field strengths are drawn. The information on these topics are extracted from various articles and studies and will be explained straightforward. An overview of the possibilities in the practical application are given, which helps to make investigations more pleasant for everyone involved. Furthermore, the relationship between acoustic volume and the magnetic field of the MRI is described and current solutions from different manufacturers are presented.
