This thesis deals with the cost of housing in Vienna. Therefore the question comes up, how and in which conditions the population of Vienna is living. Afterwards it should be dealt with how these costs in general could be measured, and for which sectors in the housing market costs have increased most. Therefore it is also of interest, which contracts and different legal types are connected to which kinds of rents.
Afterwards different instruments of state intervention should be shown, and then it should be analyzed, how the situation in the housing market and its regulations has changed in the course of the 20th century. In the end it comes to a closer look on the prevention of eviction in Vienna.
