This paper deals with the subject "the experiences of abused women throughout custody and divorce processes and violence towards women in general".
Violence towards women can have many causes and risks and appears in various ways. A separation from a violent partner can bear different psychological as well as physiological consequences for women. Often, a divorce from such a partner is troublesome and especially custody decisions can be a long and complex process. For this work, women from "Wiener Frauenhäusern", an institution in Vienna for women who are victims of abuse, were interviewed. The interviewees share their personal experiences throughout divorce- and custody processes. Furthermore, they talk about their lifesituations and the support services they might have used. For this paper, especially psychological violence is of great relevance as many of the women interviewed have experienced such. Throughout this work, the above mentioned aspects will be examined and the results of the qualitative methods will be discussed within the context of relevant literature.
