Context/ Objective/ Question: Half of the patients suffering acute stroke, are affected by dysphagia. Very Often the quality of life of these patients is severely limited as a result, e.g. the ingestion is barely possible or even impossible. The rehabilitation of the facio-oral functions needs an interdisciplinary team. Now this study goes further into the question, how the cooperative effort of a team consisting of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy looks like in the treatment of dysphagia post stroke.
Search Strategy: The research was done in Pubmed, Cinahl and Pedro, using the keywords „dysphagia“, „stroke“ and „facio-oral therapy“ in combination with „physiotherapy“, „occupational therapy“ and „speech therapy“ in English and German. Additionally, books, articles and websites were used for this work.
Results: There are similarities and differences in the measures of the treatment of all three professional groups, whereas you can notice some overlapping of the working areas of occupational and speech therapy.
Conclusion: The cooperation between all members of the team is absolutely essential, because the contents of the therapies interact with and complement each other.
