This work deals with the role of Social Work in post-trauma support. First, the term trauma is defined and its individual factors stated, which can promote or hinder the recovery process. After that, trauma outcomes that are relevant for diagnoses as well as social and psychological effects of traumata are explained. Afterwards, different approaches to trauma therapy with the goal of treating post-traumatic disorders are introduced. The last chapter deals with the task and responsibility fields of Social Work in post-trauma support while differentiating Social Work from psychotherapy. In the end, “secondary traumatization” as a challenge in working with traumatized clients is examined and psychohygiene as a protective factor is made concrete.
