From being affected to becoming an expert
The impact of the EX-IN model on social work in the area of psychiatry
This paper is primarily concerned with people whose experiences with their own psychologi-cal disorder help to train them to be experts (peers). Working in peer groups and peer coun-selling aim at working on eye level with clients who can find new access to their own disorder. To approach this topic basic notions like empowerment, recovery and trialog should be definded because of the essential role they play in the process. In addition issues like self-determination and granting clients a say should be focused on.
The project EX-IN is meant to train companions in recovery, based on a standardized curri-culum. To investigate the question of the influence this project might have on social work in the area of psychiatry, methods of social work will be explained at the end of this paper.
