The following thesis deals with the importance of cross-matching as a part of transfusion medicine. Every patient who receives a blood transfusion is confronted by an immunological process caused by the blood product. To minimize and to avoid harmfull reactions, such as non-hemolytic and hemolytic incidents, the cross-matching is a main component in this domain.
This work is focusing on the methological work and on differnt antibodies with their distracting influences on transfusions. The presence of antibodies can cause problems with the availability of blood products and can have fatal results for patients, because a transfusion with a non-compatible blood product may provoke a deadly outcome. Therefore crossmatching and the identification of antibodies is a major issue in blood-group serology.
