The present work deals with the issue of transcultural nursing, this subject has to be considered as a interdisciplinary science, which is composed of aspects of nursing-science, anthropology, sociology and communication-science. After important fundamental terms which are related to transcultural nursing have been discussed, the author focused on the practice-relevant elements of this scientific discipline. In the course of that, various topics just as different experience of pain, taboos and shame feelings, as well as culturally specific notions of care, causes of diseases and the position of the family in the nursing process are approched. In addition to this the particular role of intercultural communication is covered, which is perceived as very important in relation to the direct contact with patients. Furthermore, five different models and concepts for successful transcultural nursing are presented, whose most essential elements are then itemised in a table. Afterwards there is an extensive comparison of these models and concepts, as well as a reflection of the interfaces between the elements of the table.
