This bachelor thesis is about ventilated, especially intubated, grown up patients at an intensive care unit. There the professional nursing staff deals with intubated patients on a daily basis, not only in the self-reliant but also in the co-responsible field of activity, which is written down in the nursing law. In order to support patients, that are ventilated, properly, the staff needs to be cooperative and also very well educated. In cases of restricted communication, first attempts of spontaneous breathing or emergencies, the staff needs to know how to act properly. Readers are given a clear insight into invasive ventilation, especially into the tasks that are accomplished by the nursing staff and also into the patients experience while being ventilated at an intensive care unit.
