Paraplegia is a serious disease that can overcome all people in every age. This work focuses on pressure ulcers as a common side effect of paraplegia and the prophylaxis. Here, providing advice concerning the prevention of pressure ulcers is in the center of attention. According to latest research literature, pressure ulcer prevention and counseling are described in this work, focusing especially on the following topics: origin and consequences of decubitus including risk factors, risk groups and predilection sites. Other aspects of the work are the symptoms, the effects of paraplegia and nursing interventions concerning decubitus prophylaxis in general and in the specific situation of paraplegia, focusing on assessments and prophylaxis. These include nutrition, physical activity, skin care and decubitus tools. The last big topic of this work is the advice and guidance of paraplegic people for self-management of pressure ulcer prevention, particularly the motivation and the pressure relief measures, which are described in detail. Also family members and close friends are involved in the consultation, because they often have a high impact on people concerned and can play an important role in the recovery process including nursing, counseling and right therapy.
