CONTENT/OBJECTIVE: Physiotherapists often meet patients, who have an athletic background, with muscle injuries. The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between static stretching, flexibility and injury prevention, because at the moment, the literature study shwos no clear answer to this topic. STUDY DESIGN/METHODS: This bachelor-thesis is a non-empiric research research work. Basis for this work are open access databases and online journals on the internet. Also specific literature is used to write this thesis. RESULTS: According to different studies, static stretching affects the increase in range of motion. With what intensitiy and how long somebody should stay in the stretching position is unclear. Another point is, that it is not evidanced, if these leads to prevent muscle injuries. However, the lack of flexibility is often connected with such types of injuries. DISCUSSION/CONCLUSIO: The work has demonstrated the complexity between the flexibilits, static stretching and injurie prevention. More studies for providing evidence are absolutely necessary. Based on this knwoledge, suggestions for treatments in physiotherapy can be made.
