This paper is about factors that contribute towards the successful adjustment process of a child in an out-of-home care institution. First of all – in a theoretical part - the terms, transition and acclimation, as well as the significance for both family and child, will be explained, before defining a successful acclimation. On the one hand, different aspects from various publica-tions on the subject of acclimation that supports a successful acclimation process are out-lined. On the other hand factors, which elaborated through an in depth hermeneutic script interpretation of an analysis of 4 different interviews, which was the result of what peda-gogues, through experience found supportive for successful acclimation, were developed. The aim of this paper is to find out, by the comparison of theory and practice, whether there are differences, or even similarities in both.
