This bachelor work’s goal is to give an overview of the topic, compatibility of PACS and its medicine imaging. For compatibility the DICOM Standard (Digital Imaging an Communications in Medicine) was developed. The most important points of this standard were picked and function respectively duty described. This was done by scientifical research. Information was gathered from the internet, books and online catalogs. At the beginning this challenge was huge, but it got easier every day.
Because of this information my knowledge of this topic improved and I was able to start writing. Now I want to give a brief summary of the content of my work.
The DICOM Standard consists of eighteen parts, which are described in chapter 3.3.1 - 3.3.18 Moreover a data dictionary exists, which is again divided into three sections: standard data dictionary, private dictionary and dictionary of instructions. Even numbers belong to standard dictionary and every modality is able to accept. Odd Numbers are dedicated to private dictionary. The dictionary of instructions is responsible for orders and the lines start with 0000. Then also the IODs (Information Object Classes) exist. They are responsible for data emission. Also SOPs (Service Object Pairs), which belong to the unit functionality of DICOM and VRs (Value Representations), which declare the format, subsist. If the format regulations are not complied, it cannot be read by software or it will misinterpreted. Another important point is storaging, which happens in the SOP storages. At the end there is a brief perspective of the newest developments.
