This literature based bachelor thesis deals with the issue of distinguishing marks, intervention and prevention of child abuse. The objective of this work is to sensitize caregivers in order to be able to find professional, practical and quick ways in case of a suspected child abuse. At the beginning the different forms of child abuse are shown and distinguishing marks of children and parents as well as patterns of behavior are discussed.
The skills that parents should have in order to establish a healthy parent child relationship are crucial in order to prevent future acts of violence. If there is a solid suspicion in an Austrian Hospital, the Kinderschutzgruppe is called into action. Professionals across-the-board examine the environment of the child, assess the current threat and if needed, set further actions. Before the intervention there should be prevention, in order to avoid an endangerment of the child's welfare. A variety of counseling services and facilities offer help and support, so a network is created with the child's protection being top priority.
