Extravasation is a common problem in the treatment of cytostatic drugs during chemotherapy. Also in computed tomography extravasation is known as a dangerous side effect. In terms of prevention, it is important to know the key risk factors and to take corresponding measures. Without a further therapy extravasations may lead to severe tissue necrosis. This bachelor thesis discusses the occurrence of extravasations in computed tomography. Case studies and international studies are used to describe the symptoms an risk factors of extravasations. The clinical progress and therapy measures of extravasations will also be shown. Furthermore, by the comparison of different studies, the possible relationship between contrast-factors and the emergence of extravasation are investigated.
