My degree dissertation on "Significance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in osteochondritis dissecans (OD)" describes the diagnostic value of MRI for the detection and classification of osteochondrosis dissecans. Due to its high sensitivity, MRI provides better diagnostic capabilities than the conventional X-ray. Another great advantage is the lack of radiation exposure and thus the juvenile form of the OD can be diagnosed and treated in children without any problems and without regard to radiation exposure. Currently, MRI is known as gold standard for diagnosis of OD. Clinical studies confirm this statement.
