Secondly an overview about targets and characteristics of hospice work and Palliative Care as well as about the historical development is given. Developments like the possibility of „Familienhospizkarenz“ or of the Austrian model of a graded palliative care are concluding the chapter. The phenomenon „grief“, a major player within the palliative care and further the special needs of persons whose relative are dying are examined. A special focus is put onto the cultural and religious variety within.
