Subject of the presented thesis are new dwelling forms for old people. The main focus lies on residential communities for people with a gerontopsychiatric disease, especially dementia. Moreover, the topic will be linked to social work as well as to its options and tasks in the work with elderly people and specifically people with dementia.
In the first part of the presented thesis the termini “age”, “aging”, “old age” and “life in old age“ will be explained in general and the demographic changes and their impacts will be clarified. Next the phenomenon dementia with its form, causes, pathologies and social factors will be illuminated. Subject of this work is also the significance of living conditions in older age which should be considered under different aspects, such as economic status of the elderly, their currently living conditions, their action-dimensional behaviour and their needs concerning housing, to draw conclusions for the residential planning for older people. The focus of this work, is set on the concept and project description of residential communities for people with dementia, under previous description of alternative dwelling forms at age, as it is discussed in the fifth chapter.
