This Bachelor paper deals with one of poverty‘s most visible forms, homelessness. Our our aim is to understand the influence of welfare payments, such as bedarfsorientierte Mindestsicherung and Arbeitsmarktservice, on the quality of life of people living in Haus RIGA, a housing project for the homeless in Vienna. The first chapters of the paper cover theory that helps understand the phenomenon of homelessness. It is followed by a summary of relevant laws, welfare payment systems and support offered by the System Wiener Wohnungslosenhilfe. In the empirical part of our paper we present results and quotes from guided interviews used to collect data from our interview partners in order to hear the voices of the people living in Haus RIGA. Their lives post homelessness are determined in part by such laws and services. |
