In the course of its existence the Austrian army has been restructured several times. In the past it was a peacetime army of 500.000 soldiers all in all. In the present time the army has changed to an pure operational army with 13.675 soldiers (current headcount soldiers and civil servants about 21.000).
All of these attempts of reformation had and have a major impact on its staff. Not only the employees itself are affected by the results of these attempts but in particular it is the staff which is responsible for the implementation of the conditions imposed by the strategic management for human resources.
In this thesis the author is going to elaborate on the transformations in the area of working conditions as well as on the resulting needed changes in the education of soldiers and specialized staff in the sector of human resources. Moreover, another focal point is the definition of the scope of work during the historical evolution as well as job satisfaction and the room for improvement for the various groups of employees in this area.
