The English title of this bachelor thesis is „Violence against women as a human rights abuse. The use of international legal instruments on a national level by Social Workers in practice.“
The thesis deals with the question, why violence against women must be seen equated with a human rights abuse and how this specific knowledge can be implemented in Social Work practice. The general relevance of human rights for Social Work is explained and the terms human rights, human rights abuse and violence against women are defined. The most important human rights instrument for women, the Convention of Elimination of all forms of discrimination against women and the prevalence and forms of violence against women in the states of the EU by reference to a study of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights are described as well. The Austrian results of the study are explained and also the demands of the EU Agency to all EU member states. Current policies , which shall reduce violence against women in the EU area and explicit in Austria, are named too. In a further chapter, there is a description about a possible appeal procedure against a human rights abuse and two successfully examples, the appeal procedures of the institution “Wiener Interventionsstelle” against Austria, are mentioned. Finally, the possible use of international human rights instruments on a national level for Social Workers in practice are explained in this bachelor thesis.
