This present paper is dealing with the Austrian labor market policy and brings it together with aspects of the profession of Social Work. The focus of the dispute are the so called SÖBs (= social-economy-operation) respectively the GBPs (=non-profit-projects). SÖBs and GBPs are tools of the active labor market policy of Austria, which are frequently seen, from the viewpoint of the AMS (=Austrian labor market service),as very expensive. Research reports and statistical documentation show that especially the „weak ones“ respectively people who are difficult to place in employment, can be found in SÖBs or GBPs. Care and assistance concerning the social impact as well as the role of social work in „employment projects of the second labor market“ can be seen as rather marginal.
