According to the annual report 2013 of the Viennese youth welfare office almost 600 children were taken away from their family system and brought to different organisations or other family like systems. (vgl. MAG ELF 2013:49) Such an event is a drastic change in the life of every family member. Of course also the daily life of the parents is changing.
This work focuses on the professional work with parents done by the youth welfare office after kids were taken away. Various theories of the work with parents is presented and existing practices of different youth welfare services are analysed. Additionally the perspective of the clients themselves is also taken into consideration. To get the empirical data for this research paper, six social workers and two mothers were interviewed. To complete this extensive paper also the legal aspects of custody were analysed on a theoretical basis.
