Nowadays, prenatal diagnosis is an essential part of the medical care during pregnancy. The aim is to diagnose possible diseases of the unborn and to prevent high- risk pregnancies. However, these examinations also pose some problems, nurses and professionals working in health care, should consider. Professionally supporting pregnant women, since they often do not get the information they need after they are told, that their child may be disabled or ill, is an essential part of counselling these women. Another issue to be considered, is the question, if the women actually want to perform the prenatal diagnosis or not.
