This literature study deals with the possible range of activity from Public Health Nurses and Family Health Nurses in a familiar setting, both in an international context and in German-speaking countries. As they have various assignments, this paper focuses on the prevention of Asthma, obesity and postnatal depression. Public Health Nurses are able to work in nu-merous settings as the home of the families, in Child Health Centres or in an outpatient clinic. They enable lifestyle chances for weight loss, held Asthma-management-courses or use special screening instruments in order to detect postnatal depressions. Health promotion is performed in terms of population health surveillance, instructions regarding health or transfer of knowledge. A School Nurse is a specialised Public Health Nurse, who undertakes preven-tive projects regarding obesity or Asthma as well as the health promotion of the whole school population. Another nursing profession is the Family Health Nurse, which is based on the concept of the WHO Europe, and implemented in several countries as Scotland, Finland or Slovenia. The practice covers activities as the caring for the whole family, conducting family assessments, health promotion and predominantly prevention. The Family Health Nurses and Public Health Nurses often have to work in an interdisciplinary team with members for example from the politics. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland there are a few approaches regarding the new assignments of nurses, however they are often not involved in programs regarding health promotion and prevention.
