This paper is titled “Animal assisted interventions for old people. Looking at social works role in hospices and the implementation of animal assisted interventions.”
This Paper, gives an answer to the question ‘What are the explicit tasks of socialwork in the fields of hospices and palliative care und (how) could animal assisted interventions be integrated?’. The paper shows the development of hospices and palliative care, the current situation in Austria and the role of socialwork in that field, based on a literature research. Furthermore, the needs of elderly and dying people as well as the effects of animal assisted interventions get explored. Therefore, studies and projects concerning old people and animals get described. The outcome of these discussion says that animals can support socialwork in a meaningful way, but the implementation of explicit animal assisted interventions are not possible looking at socialworks capacities.
