This paper analyses and evaluates the study support system in Austria, mainly in the form of the “Studienbeihilfe”. In Austria, study support is a central instrument for enabling all people to study, regardless of their social background or income. The aim is to give an insight into the system of study support and afterwards the effect of the “Studienbeihilfe” on society in Austria will also be analyzed. This analysis is also intended to identify potential problems in the current system through the involvement of existing research in this area. The empirical research of the problem is carried out based on expert and guideline interviews. In addition, the findings from the report "Materialien zur sozialen Lage der Studierenden 2016 " by the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economics will be incorporated. It became clear that the amount of the “Studienbeihilfe” is too low for the students, but the experts consider it as justified. However, an amendment to the “Studienförderungsgesetz” in 2017 has already brought central improvements for all recipients. Overall, however, the experts and the students surveyed rated the system of study support as useful, but by no means perfect.
