This thesis deals with mourning and grief counselling, with a major focus on grief after perinatal loss. The main aim is to answer the following research question: What does grief counseling imply, which characteristics are given by perinatal loss and how can social work support in such situations? Thus, grief in general, as well as distinct models and forms of grieving processes will be defined in detail. Furthermore an overview of the phenomenon of grief counselling will be given, before specifying on aspects of grief counselling after perinatal loss. Finally, an exemplary model for the contact with bereaved parents will be introduced, as a scheme for actual appliance. Among others, one of the most important findings of this thesis is, that grief counselling after perinatal loss serves as an important sphere of action for social workers.
