When social work becomes a target for aggressive clients. Methods for a safe contact in everyday professional life.
The present work deals with methods for the safe contact with aggressive clients. Social workers are confronted repeatedly with conflictual situations, which can also lead to psychological and physical attacks by their clients. The aim of this thesis is to work out which factors can cause and promote aggression or violence and how it is possible to intervene in an escalation of those. The work is divided into the general definition of the terms "aggression" and "violence", doing this particular attention is paid to the distinction and the interrelation of the two terms. Additionally, explanation approaches are given for the development of aggressive behavior, especially towards social workers. After a basis for the topic of aggression and violence has been created, considerations to avoid or reduce these will follow. These considerations make it possible to treat the affected persons more adequately. Finally, this thesis is now dedicated to dealing directly with aggressive clients, because preventive interventions cannot avoid all escalations of violence. The question then arises, how a social worker can interact in an acute aggression situation.
