This thesis deals with aggression and violence against health care workers. Coping with aggressive patients in a competent way, is an important part of the job as a nurse. Especially young employees, who only have a little experiece in this field, need support from the executive staff. The main focus of this thesis, is to present methods of prevention an de-escalation of aggressive behavior among patients. An appropriate management of aggression can decrease the number of critical events associated with aggressive or violent patients, and therefore also the negative impacts and physical and mental consequences on the staff. In order to understand this phenomen, it is necessary to look more closely at the causes of agression. Associated with disease or a hospital stay, there are many factors, which can play a role in the process of aggression. In the interest of effective prevention, the subject must lose ist taboo stigma.
