Delirium is a cognitive disorder that involves an acute debilitating decline in an individual´s inability to pay attention, perceive, speak and think appropriately. The symptoms are recognized by an acute onset and daily fluctuations. If the delirium is not recognized as such and remains untreated, short-term and long-term consequences can fallow. It is important to quickly identify high-risk patients to prevent the development of delirium. Delirmanagement ensures optimal care for persons with delirium, focusing on prevention and the therapy. Non-drug preventions measures such as early mobilization, hydration and orientation aids can reduce the risk of delirium.
