This thesis deals with political and social influences on the elementary system and the job profile of kindergarten pedagogues in Austria since the 1950s. The following analysis is based on literature, legal texts, articles of the magazine "Unsere Kinder" as well as education plans and textbooks. The resolution of the "Sektion Kindergärtnerinnen und Erzieher der Katholischen Lehrerschaft" from the year 1972 became the starting point of this bachelor thesis. The research interest was pursued with the question "How did political and social aspects change the fundamental early childhood education and the professional image of kindergarten pedagogues in Austria since the 1950s?"
It became evident as a central conclusion of this paper that the kindergarten has changed from a caring institution into a part of the educational system because of political and social aspects as well as scientific findings. Because of this development, the job profile of kindergarten pedagogues is characterized by changes. It should be noted that on the one hand the requirements have grown and are still growing, and on the other hand, the education, working and prevailing conditions don’t comply with scientific insights.
